Greetings in Italian

How do we greet each other in Italy? I bet you all know the word 'ciao', that derives from the Venetian dialect and originally meant 'schiavo vostro' or 'your slave'. Not quite the same meaning it has now eh?! But there are also other greetings in Italian. Have a look below

Per cominciare...to start

There are few apps that can help you in learning a language. Duolingo is the first one I would like to recommend. Fun and easy to use, it is great to use on the bus or if you have 10,15 minutes spare. It is great to start, however, my opinion is that you will learn lot of vocabulary (some not so useful...like how to say 'whale' in Italian 🤔) and not enough 'sentence structure'. That means knowing a huge amount of words but not always know how to put them together in a sentence. Memrise another fun app, the basic version is free, you just need to sign up. A bit more challenging compared to Duolingo, but for me, the two are complementary. It is based on memorization (memorize words and example sentences) lingq A bit least stimulating compared to the previous two, but still effective, especially for those who prefer a more traditional approach when learning a new language. Some advices to learn a new language

Ciao! Here some advices that I hope could be useful to whom is starting the process of learning a new language, in this case, Italian. They come from my own experience as student and as language teacher. 1. DON'T RUSH. If you are learning a new language for pleasure, for work and you don't have a deadline such as an exam at university, take it easy! Lots of students, when they start a new course they ask me: 'How long to become fluent'? At the beginning I used to say something like 'few years, maybe 4,5'. But now my answer is 'A lifetime and it won't be enough.' Learning a language requires time, dedication and practice. Plus, we all have different learning style. 2. PRACTICE OUTSIDE THE CLASS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Don't be shy! Use the language whenever you can! Is your boyfriend Italian? Then why are you still talking in English?
